War is not just a battlefield—it leaves invisible wounds on the soul. Anxiety disorders, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have become the lingering shadows that haunt many soldiers and veterans, preventing them from fully living their lives after returning from combat. According to experts, 12–20% of individuals who experience traumatic events develop PTSD. In Ukraine, this may mean tens or even hundreds of thousands of people who need help.
But what if the answer to this challenge lies deep within our gut?
The “Rapid Recovery” program by Ediens, developed in collaboration with partners, offers an innovative approach to the prevention and treatment of PTSD based on the normalization of the gut microbiome. How does it work?
PTSD, Depression, Anxiety: Understanding and the Path to Healing
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common condition that can affect individuals who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events such as war.
Symptoms of PTSD may include:
Anxiety
Depression
Nightmares (disturbing dreams or night terrors)
Mood swings
Avoidance of people and places related to the trauma
Memory loss
Difficulty concentrating
Traditional PTSD treatments—such as psychotherapy and medication—do not always yield the desired results, as they often fail to consider the unique physiological characteristics of each individual. However, innovative scientific approaches to preventing PTSD are already known globally and available to specialists.
Today, we stand on the brink of a biorevolution in PTSD treatment, led by the “Rapid Recovery for Heroes” program from Ediens. At its core lies an innovative approach based on proprietary algorithms for normalizing the gut microbiome.
What is the Microbiome?
The gut microbiome is a complex community of billions of microorganisms living in our intestines. These microbes play a crucial role in our health, influencing the immune system, digestion, mood, and many other bodily functions.
Studies have shown that individuals with anxiety disorders often have an altered gut microbiome. Imbalance in the gut microbiome is directly linked to the early symptoms of PTSD—such as anxiety and depression—and may serve as an early marker of the disorder's onset.
The “Rapid Recovery” program takes an individualized approach to treatment by targeting the correction of each patient’s specific microbiome profile.
Program specialists assess the microbiome through next-generation sequencing or microbiota indicators, and then select personalized biopreparations to restore balance in the gut. This stimulates local immunity and may lead to rapid recovery and the prevention of PTSD.
Advantages of the “Rapid Recovery” Program:
Personalized treatment approach
Tackling the problem of multiple antibiotic resistance, common in hospital-acquired infections
Gut microbiome profiling tailored to each patient
Individualized selection of microbiota-correcting agents to prevent PTSD symptoms
Improved mental and physical health using proprietary formulations
“Rapid Recovery” is a new and promising program for the prevention and treatment of PTSD, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, and depression. It has the potential to help thousands of Ukrainians, including internally displaced persons, wounded soldiers, and veterans.
Goals and Principles of the “Rapid Recovery for Military” Program:
Address the issue of antibiotic resistance, which complicates the treatment of wounded soldiers
Improve methods of identifying individual PTSD biomarkers for early detection
Effectively correct gut microbiota in individuals affected by warfare
Provide early and accurate diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of depression and PTSD
Support at least 1,000 individuals in 2024 by offering them essential medical and psychological care
How Does This Project Help Hospitals?
The “Rapid Recovery” project offers comprehensive support for injured soldiers in hospitals through the following:
Combatting Antibiotic Resistance
Supporting the implementation of EUCAST and Ministry of Health protocols on antibiotic usage through tools like EUCAST and the national platform WHONET, helping prevent the emergence of resistant bacterial strains.
Enhancing Military Rehabilitation
Developing individualized rehabilitation plans based on gut microbiome composition and psychological condition. Personalized microbiome correction methods improve digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.
Microbiome Research
Identifying unique gut microbiome traits in wounded individuals (including civilians affected by war, IDPs, and veterans) and establishing the connection between intestinal microbiota and both mental and physical health. This forms the basis for targeted correction strategies and early diagnosis and treatment of PTSD.
The program also collaborates with academic and medical institutions to share expertise and insights.
“Rapid Recovery for Heroes” is more than just a project—it’s a movement. A collaboration of doctors, scientists, volunteers, and compassionate individuals and institutions striving to restore health and quality of life for those affected by war.
Together, we can make Ukraine a country of healthy and happy people!
